On Christmas Eve, Santa’s sleigh will have a GPS-tracker. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) will give Saint Nick’s exact location as he delivers toys around the world.
Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby said, (quote) “NORAD NORTHCOM will be tracking Santa this year. We have all kinds of capabilities to do that.” This includes mobile apps, the NORAD website and by phone. The toll-free number is 1-877-Hi-NORAD (1-877-446-6723).
The tradition started in 1955. A newspaper printed a wrong number to Santa’s toyshop in the North Pole. Calls went to the direct line of Air Force Colonel Harry Shoup. As curious children called, the Colonel gave his best guesstimates to Santa and the reindeer’s location. (People)
